Kayle Graham, Journeyman electrician, I.B.E.W. Local 665

"I was born and raised in Lansing Michigan, where I graduated from Lansing Sexton High School in 2005. During my senior year at Sexton, I enrolled in the Construction Readiness And Fitness Training  Program (C.R.A.F.T). During the program, I visited the Lansing Electrical Joint Apprenticeship Training Center    (LEJATC ). I was given a career overview where I performed hands-on job task demonstration and participated in a question and answer session with licensed electricians.

Some of the things I liked about being a skilled trade apprentice in LEJATC include on the job training, working with my hands, and the opportunity to travel for work.  I was also happy to find out the apprenticeship was paid for by the I.B.E.W. Local and contractors; it was a huge relief to know I did not have to worry about student loans. After leaving the training center I knew that I wanted to be an electrician. Three months after graduating high school I started my 5 year Apprenticeship with the LETAJC. At age 23, I had completed the program, earned my state license as a journeyman electrician,  and was making $60,000 a year. Through my career I have worked on various universities, colleges, hospitals,  and power plants across Michigan.

In 2013,  eight years had passed since I graduated from high school, and 3 years since I completed my apprenticeship. I was 26 years old with a great career and had started a family. Even though I stayed away from student loans, I had acquired debt from not managing and budgeting money correctly. I realized the best thing to do would be to consult a financial advisor. Things went so well that I decided to become a financial service representative part-time for Primerica. My goal is to teach fundamental financial principles that are not taught in school. Our company’s mission is to help families become properly protected, debt free, and financially independent. Primerica takes an educational approach and offer financial tools to help our clients reach their goals."
