#BreakTheCode
"During my time at Emory University School of Law, one thing became very obvious - certain groups (generally people of color and those who were first generation law students) did not have the same advantages as those who had more resources and successful attorneys in their families. For those of us who were first generation attorneys, we certainly played to something of a disadvantage - we knew less about what to expect from the law school process, particularly testing, grades, and the importance of certain internships. I knew then that I wanted to do something - anything - to help students in the community I cherish be prepared for whatever path they wanted to journey down. This is why I, along with my other Lansing native friends, founded Decoded. We want to make sure students understand that part of the battle is simply knowing someone in the field you want to pursue - someone to advise you and help you along. Someone to break the code for you and make your path smoother." - Bejidé Davis, Decoded Founder
